No, definitely not. This correction mechanism is safe and painless.

What is maximum number of hours the dog can wear the collar?

8 hours at a time.

What can I expect from the dog as an initial reaction?

Initial reactions vary from dog to dog. A squeal or wine is a normal reaction to this new form of correction. It is strongly advised that the dog's owner be present at during the first few corrections.

Can the dog wear the collar when alone at home?

Yes, but only after he has had time to become accustomed to wearing the collar and receiving correction

Is it safe to attach a leash to the bark control collar?

No. Never attach a leash to the collar, use a separate collar for this purpose.

Containment Systems

Is there a minimum age restriction for dogs to use the containment systems with?

Preferably dogs should be at least 6 months old.

After wearing the collar for how many days should it be activated for the first correction?

Between 3 and 7 days. During the first correction the dog should be on a leash. As this is the dog's first correction the dog may become confused. If the dog is on a leash the owner can guide the dog as to the expected behaviour.

What does the "safe zone" refer to?

This constitutes the area where the dog can move around freely without receiving a correction.

Once a dog has been trained as to the boundaries of the correction zone, how should a dog be walked out of these boundaries?

An imaginary or invisible gate must be "created" and whenever the boundaries of the correction zone must be left, the dog should pass through the "gate".

What is the "dummy collar" effect and how is it created?

This effect is used to train the dog to understand that not the collar but the proximity to the boundary leads to correction. This effect is created when the dog wears an inactive collar for a certain period, ranging from 3 to 5 days. It can take between 3 and 7 days to create the effect.

Is this form of training safe and effective?

Yes. For any form of correction to be effective, it needs to be unpleasant. The correction from the collar is unpleasant, BUT, entirely harmless.
